Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes advocates:

*The community should insist that the schools have strict policies on school safety and should make sure those policies are followed.

*They should support the schools when they do things right and hold them accountable when they don’t.

*They should insist that every teacher or in-school professional be given the opportunity to voice through either a public venue or anonymous manner information that would assist in keeping our schools safe without fear of reprisal.

*There should be annual updates made available to students, parents, and school personnel of any safety concerns that they should know about and there should be yearly training of all personnel so they can identify possible issues.
